Dr. Goldratt provides clarity to the various applications of the Theory of Constraints to production environments. He shows the reason for the differences behind the concepts of Drum-Buffer-Rope (DBR), Simplified Drum-Buffer-Rope (SDBR), Make to Order (MTO), Make to Stock (MTS) and Make to Availability (MTA). In this Part 2 of "Introduction to TOC - My Perspective", he also shows the importance of understanding the concept of Protective Capacity, the mechanisms called Load Control and POOGI, and their implications on current production software limitations. Last but not least, Dr. Goldratt addresses the need of refinement of the DBR concept for environments where the production touch-time is not negligible.
